The domaine du Prieuré des Papes Vielles Vignes
Our Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes is a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre associated with an exceptional terroir composed of deep soil of clayey sands mixed with scree pebbles, the vineyard is located in the north of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation.
At harvest time, the grapes are entirely destemmed. The wine is received by gravity, followed by maceration for approximately four weeks in concrete vats. Aging continues for 18 months in large oak casks, demi-muids, and concrete/stainless steel tanks.
On tasting, the "Vieilles Vignes" wine has a complex, deep nose, with aromas of candied Morello cherries, plum, tobacco, bay leaf, pepper, flint, thyme, and fenugreek. On the palate, it displays a beautiful power, all in discretion and restraint, supported by a tannic structure without dryness. The finish is long, marked by lovely, promising bitterness.
It will be perfect with a flavorful meat. Its aging potential is significant: more than ten years, like any great Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
